Design Statement

MONO- is a visually dynamic performance installation, drawing on themes of horror, tragedy and comedy inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's Berenice. At the outset, the audience were released into “Plant 4” of the now defunct Clipsal Factory site in Adelaide to experience a thrashing of surreal vignettes saturated in primary colours, intended to shock and tantalise the crowd into a hypnotic frenzy.
MONO- was the debut performance devised by the House of Vnholy ensemble. The intention was to create a performance driven by the desire of aesthetic and scenography using contemporary technical aspects. MONO- was a site specific work, designed in response to a disused electrical accessories factory in the west-end of the South Australian capital city, Adelaide.
MONO- was a glacial paced meditation on themes of obsession and desire with its formalist aesthetic rooted in the foundation of its creation.

HOV has created several projects including MONO-, Homme and The Spectre of Death.
