Marina Raytchinova
Since graduating from the National Academy of Art in 1985 Marina has designed sets, costume and lighting for over 150 shows for theatres in Bulgaria, USA, Russia, Macedonia, including TBA, the National Theatre in Sofia, Clarence Brown Theatre – Knoxville.
Marina collaborated for over 10 years with the noted Bulgarian director Krikor Azaryan and designed his acclaimed productions of “ Seagull” ( TBA, 2006), “ Three Sisters” (Theatre for the youth, 2007), and “Cherry Orchard” ( the National Theatre).
Lately, Marina collaborates with the director Stayko Murdjev. Her design for Murdjev’ s production of Euridice in Underworld by Sarah Ruhl received the annual award of the Union of Bulgarian Actors in 2016.
Some recent projects include a production of Alexander Block’ s Rose and Cross at the Theatre- Studio of Dramatic Art in Moscow, directed by Alexander Ponomarev and Anna Karenina, directed by Nikolay Polyakov, City Theatre Sofia,(nominated for National award “ Ikar” for 2017)
Marina ‘s work has been featured several times at PQ and at WSD Gallery exhibits in Toronto 2003 and Cardif 2013.
Marina is a Head of Department Scenography at NAA and teaches set and costume design.
Her other teaching credits include UT, Knoxville and the Theatre Academy (NATFA), Sofia.
